My last blog claimed that equilibrium economics is a fig-leaf for the rich and powerful – because it’s a great excuse for preserving the status quo.

Land rent is one of several sources of unearned wealth that bestow privileges on a minority of citizens while biasing the economy against the interests of the majority. 

It was Herbert Spencer who first coined the term 'survival of the fittest' but that is not the optimum way for a healthy society to function. 

When we look at the News International, Metropolitan Police and British Political debacle we begin to get the scale of the rot at the core of the Western democratic process.

A topic that gets virtually no coverage in mainstream economics is unearned wealth, yet it is both a cause and a symptom of our continuing economic malaise.
